VPI Industries Inc. is a high-end audio manufacturer that was started by Sheila and Harry Weisfeld, the founders and co-owners thirty two years ago. Both Jonathan, our oldest son and VPI Industries began at the same time in 1978 with our first product, a record weight in two different sizes. Then, we introduced a turntable isolation base in December of 1978.
Our first major product, which is still in production in an improved form, was our HW-16 record cleaning machine introduced in 1981. Harry Weisfeld, then a dedicated audiophile, wanted his records to be as clean as possible (including the dirty ones whose sonic potential lay beneath a layer of contaminants). However, the only available record cleaning machine at that time was the Keith Monks Record Cleaner. How could a newly married husband justify this expense to his wife! (“Too bad some of those conversations were not recorded for posterity”, says one reviewer”; no doubt they would have had a familiar ring to many audiophiles and their designated others). Without much choice, Harry decided to make a record cleaning machine for his own use. This became the original HW-16, which sold for less than 1/5 the price of the Keith Monks Cleaning Machine. The 16 was noisy, but so was our corn popper. Soon after the cleaning machine, the infamous DB-5 or "magic bricks" were introduced. These were wood-encased ferrous metal blocks designed to absorb stray electromagnetic radiation from electronic components. This was followed by VPI manufacturing bases for both the Denon and JVC direct drive motors. And then the HW-19 turntable followed by the MK2 and then MK3 and then the MK4. These tables have become an industry standard for High End performance at an affordable price. With the introduction of the TNT Turntable came the reality of Harry’s promise to produce a state-of-the-art turntable at something less than a state-of-the-staggering price. In 1985, the PLC, or "power line conditioner" was introduced. "A new product" and "a new child"; Mathew, our youngest son was born. Then, in 1995, Harry and Sheila Weisfelds’, oldest son, Jonathan, then seventeen years old and a Junior in High School, was killed in a horrific car accident with two other boys. The tonearm that Harry and Jonathan had been working on became a reality (as a living memorial to the Weisfelds’ son). Jonathan had worked at his parents' factory and was helping his dad design a new tonearm. This tonearm became the "JMW Memorial Tonearm". A percentage of every tonearm that is sold is put into the "Jonathan Weisfeld Memorial Fund" with the funds being used to further Arts and Music. The introduction of the Aries, later the Scout and then the Scoutmaster, and then finally the Super Scoutmaster brought our company into new areas of business and manufacturing while at the same time increased our sales. Most VPI turntables regardless of vintage are upgradeable. VPI manufactures a variety of turntables which range in price and available options, as well as the JMW tonearm series, the SDS and three record cleaning machines. Our latest product was the 30th Anniversary “Classic” Turntable. It is the culmination of thirty years of work and the beginning of a new generation of turntables. Simple, mechanically correct, low in cost, and excellent at extracting the excitement locked in those vinyl grooves. Sheila and Harry’s sonic philosophy is to reproduce the dynamics of live music in one’s home, and that the illusion of reality cannot be duplicated without convincing resolution of low-level detail, along with a natural sense of acoustic space. We use live concerts, reel-to-reel tapes, and a Yamaha Disclavier grand piano as sonic references. Mathew is the trombone and piano player in our family, Jonathan was the guitarist, playing both the acoustic and electric guitar. And Harry played the accordion in his youth. All VPI products are built in the United States in Cliffwood, New Jersey using American made parts and labor. We are an old school American manufacturer sourcing American made components whenever possible, even if they are more expensive than foreign components. The tonearm lifters are the only part of the JMW tonearms that aren’t made by any American manufacturer and are thus purchased abroad. The VPI products shown on our website are only a small selection of what's available, if you are interested in a VPI product other than those shown on our website: Mail Us |

VPI Classic 1 |
|
VPI - Classic 1 Turntable The VPI Classic 1 turntable comes standard with the unipivot JMW-10.5i tonearm Special Edition in rigid mount mode, new VPI silver coated pure copper wire, a 2.5" thick plinth trimmed with real black oak or real solid walnut finish (at no additional cost), a solid mounted 600 RPM AC synchronous motor, new 2" thick machined aluminum platter, silent inverted bearing, and new isolator feet derived from the HR-X. .
The sound of the Classic 1 turntable is fast, clean, wide open, with deep powerful bass, and unequalled in speed stability. The Classic 1 turntable” gives any turntable made regardless of price a serious "run for the money."
This completely new design has produced the simplest and one of the best sounding VPI tables to date. VPI "Classic Turntable" Features:
Special Edition JMW-10.5i SE tonearm - By giving up "vta on the fly" adjustments, you get most of the sound of the highly reviewed JMW-10.5i tonearm. A new less expensive base and mounting saves hundreds of dollars but gives up little in sound. New 6061 machined aluminum 18 pound high inertia platter with precision inverted bearing and stainless steel damping plate. Speed stability on par with a master tape - Due to the rigid mounting of motor - platter - tonearm there is no random motion to cause speed instabilities. Noise rejection allowing the Classic 1 turntable to sit on a wood shelf near four 15" subwoofers and having virtually no feedback.Lack of random motion between the motor - platter - tonearm gives the ultimate in low level resolution. Not only does this rigidity improve speed stability, it also allows the retrievel of low level information challenging the world's great turntables and master tapes. Absolutely solid, non-resonating laminated one-piece chassis holding all components. This is not a wooden frame; it is a solid laminated 2.5" thick MDF block with 11 gauge steel attached to the top with silicone and long bolts through all the layers. The chassis weighs 30 pounds and is totally non-resonant.Now with solid black oak or solid walnut wood finish on all four sides. RCA jack termination so you can use the interconnect of your choice.Tonearm anti-skate - For those that require the fine adjustment of anti-skate, it is standard on the JMW-10.5i SE.Dimensions:
20.5" W x 15.5" D x 10" H (Including tonearm wire loop) Weight: 65 pounds

VPI The Super Scout Master Reference |
|
VPI - The Super Scout Master Reference Turntable In 2005, after manufacturing turntables for 27 years, we thought we had seen and done everything. While listening to the Scoutmaster the thought hit us "If this sounds so good what could we do to make it sound better"? Combining the DNA of a Scoutmaster and an HR-X produced the SuperScoutmaster or SSM as it is called. The SSM uses the most accurate motor drive in audio, the HR-X system. The massive flywheel and dual motor assembly controlled by the super accurate SDS power supply gives the smoothest rotation for tape like sound. You can almost say that if your expensive table doesn't have a flywheel driving it, why is it so expensive? The finishing touches are the specially designed, totally non resonant laminated chassis and the periphery ring clamp. The ring clamp lowers warp induced speed variations to near zero making the combination of HR-X flywheel drive and perfectly level record sound like a master tape. Before you purchase any expensive table you must compare the facts:
The SSM has all of this and more. The SSM comes with everything you need to play your records at the state of the art. The SSM Reference is only available with the JMW 10.5i Tonearm, textured black motor housing, and the Classic aluminum platter.

VPI The Aries 3 |
|
VPI - The Aries 3 Turntable THE ARIES 3 IS THE PERFECT CHOICE FOR THOSE WHO WANT NEAR-HR-X PERFORMANCE IN A SMALLER SIZE.The 1.75"-thick platter is comprised of non-resonant acrylic and incorporates an inverted bearing similar to that used in the HR-X. The bearing shaft is 60 Rockwell hardness, ground and polished, and the platter rotates on a Teflon/Delrin composit thrust plate for ultra low noise. The solid stainless steel motor assembly is almost 15 pounds and contains a smooth 300-RPM synchronous motor with Delrin motor pulley. This is a very low noise system with the fundamental resonance of the motor at 5 Hertz which is well below the frequency a cartridge can reproduce. The Aries 3 chassis is made from a sandwich of 2 layers of 5/8” polished black acrylic top and bottom with a 5/8” thick aluminum center section, exactly like the HR-X chassis design which provides stability and damping. This system creates an inert, quiet, and stable platform for the platter and tonearm to sit on. The plinth is supported by four black Delrin feet, the bottoms of which are composed of hardened steel balls. The suspension when applied to the laminated HR-X type chassis provides outstanding rigidity and a wealth of information from the record grooves. They are adjustable for leveling. The Aries 3 circular armboard is a 4” in diameter, 1" thick black acrylic that mates sonically with the HR-X style laminated chassis. The Aries 3 is available with or without a VPI tonearm. For best sound VPI recommends the Aries 3 with JMW-10.5i tonearm for a truly musical system. The Aries 3 can be taken to the next level by adding VPI’s Synchronous Drive System, periphery ring, and HR-X center weight at an additional cost.SIZE - 22" X 16"

VPI The HR-X |
|
VPI - The HR-X Turntable The HR-X is known to reviewers and manufacturers around the world for it's natural reproduction of scale and sweep, which are two of the things that make us feel like we are listening to live music. With world class detail, low noise, pace, and timing, the HR-X will bring the concert hall into your home. Best of all, it does this without fiddling, tweaking, or constant resetting. The HR-X features a triple laminated chassis (Acrylic-Aluminum-Acrylic) and integral air suspension which rejects up to 98% of acoustic feedback. The HR-X uses an inverted main bearing incorporating a chrome polished hardened steel ball running on a Teflon/Delrin composite for ultra low noise without any vertical motion caused by magnetic or air suspension resonances.A periphery record clamp ring is centered by the platter, not the record, providing vacuum-like hold down without the problems inherent in a vacuum system. The drive system uses two low-powered 24-pole motors driving a 12-pound flywheel. The flywheel spins at 300 RPM and has 62 times the inertia of a 25 pound platter. The drive system and the periphery clamp result in wow, flutter, and rumble that are all below measurability providing world class sound. The JMW 12.7 tonearm is bolted to the aluminum portion of the chassis with a double base mounting, providing the ultimate in rigidity and adjustability. The SDS power supply rounds out the package and provides a pure AC signal to the drive system. The HR-X, includes the JMW 12.7 tonearm with propietary VPI silver over copper wire, periphery ring clamp, center record weight, dual motor flywheel, air ball suspension, clear acrylic platter with inverted bearing, and SDS power supply. When teamed up with the RIM DRIVE system the HR-X becomes one of a handful of turntables able to raise the hairs on the back of a listeners neck while enjoying the sculptured beauty of its design
